While working between murky zone of conscious and unconscious, dream and reality, artist duo Terrible Twins (Ruta Pu and Urte Janus) construct fictional worlds, questioning if the so-called reality is actually that legitimate how people are used or made to believe.
One of their main interests is how the information is transmitted and received and how the same information gets distorted or interpreted in many different ways. Their artistic process is an exploration of history, myth, legend, ritual and the self in the full of information and disinformation contemporary world.
Terrible Twins investigate how the history and mythology is reflected in everyday objects people surround themselves with and the meanings they carry depending on the context.
Their working technique is based on constructing three-dimensional sets, combined with found or made objects, presented in the form of installation or documented by using photography or video. The elements of kitsch and cliché are usually big part of their work as they perfectly reflect the surface of our culture.
Ruta and Urte collect such objects and mix them up with their made ones as well as video pieces and sounds into a collage intuitively or with the aim to establish connections. They usually transform themselves into characters of the stories, trying to adopt different roles by using masks and clothing elements.
