Lucy McRae is a science fiction artist, director and self proclaimed body architect probing the frontiers of the body, health and human adaptability. Dousing technology in femininity she responds to complex future scenarios inventing visually iconic experiences that connect science with the imagination.
The Swallowable Parfum® short film is the culmination of a four week Summer residency at Pin Up Project Space where Lucy extrapolated her artistic provocation into a live performance where viewers stepped into a future where the body and technology merge.
The Swallowable Parfum® is a capsule that enables human skin to emit a genetically unique scent about who we are, and how we perform our identities. Lucy teams up with acclaimed synthetic biologist Sheref Mansy and are currently in research phase to develop the capsule.
A self-initiated project the film takes you on a speculative journey into an evocative, surreally choreographed world where the Swallowable Parfum® is manufactured, packaged and digested. Film sets were simultaneously viewed by a live audience of 300, exploring the idea of extending the projects experience beyond film.
Listed by Fast Company (2012) as someone who is shaping the future, Lucy is a TED FELLOW (2012) inventor of the Swallowable Parfum® (2011) designer of the LIQUID SKIN for pop star Robyn, co-founder of the formidable LUCYANDBART series and director of the ASTRONAUT AEROBICS INSTITUTE (2014) a futuristic day spa positively impacting the biometrics of the brain and body developed alongside two of Great Britain’s Olympic sychronised swimmers.
