Raluca Caragea is a Romanian self-taught visual artist based in Brussels. She studied psychology and in the same time developed an interest for using photography as a method of interpreting and researching reality.
Her works follow different subjects: from portraits to street images, from shots of body parts to conceptual photography or nature. Influenced by dreams, nature, stories and music, she depicts the world as an amalgam of symbols and metaphors.
Her portraits want to revive moments full of emotions: shyness, melancholy, fear, innocence and joy. For Raluca, the photographs recompose real life. They capture situations, persons or symbols we often use for understanding the world. They show a certain light, a different shadow, moments we sometimes forget.
During the last years she has taken part in several group and personal exhibitions in Romania, and won several distinctions in international photography contests such as: 2nd prize in Monochrome Photography Awards; Honorable Mention in International Color Awards – 8th edition; Honorable Mention in ND Photography Awards.
