A sinuous mermaid, dressed in black latex, poses throught Los Angeles streets and beaches with her shining suit and kinky appeal. She is Permaid.
Permaid, the Persian Mermaid, is the photographic project and living art performance of photographer Aeschleah DeMartino, and fashion designer Nicolette Mishkan (actually, the lady in the suit).
Not just a portfolio of a sort of S&M sea-world creature, Permaid is a “living entity“, with her own story and personality, running social accounts, fighting for sea-world rights and dating on Tinder (with real people).
The photographs, bright and well composed as fashion shoots, describe her everyday life and contribute to the self-exploration of her identity.
The presence of this dark creature, a totally-black and weird version of Cindy Sherman, posing in settings such as beaches, metro or luxurious restaurants, is both provocative and surreal.
The unexpected apparance of this character, found on Malibu beach and adopted by a Persian family (as she says), brings a hint of creepy disorientation and absurdity in our life.
