Jen Mann is a Canadian artist who works mostly in oil on canvas, creating large hyperreal paintings with the use of digital and photographic abstractions in the process, to create images distanced from our physical reality.
Mann’s work looks at identity, self and how we understand others, through visual puns and dreamscapes, that reference popular culture, to create a commentary on today’s society and social norms.
Her painting process starts with a concept. After that the idea is focused, she shoots it, edit it all and then paints it. The paintings themselves don’t take very long but the process – which is the most important part foe Mann- usually does.
Mann received a B.F.A from Ontario College of Art and Design, and she has exhibited in numerous shows across the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. Mann is a recent recipient of the Emerging Artist Grant for the Ontario Arts Council.
