In his works Igor Skaletsky freely manipulates the recognizable images of the history of art and high culture, and ironically unites them in the stylistics of fashion magazines.
His works send us back to patterns of our perception and at the same time destroy them. Our visual habits, this secret passage to the unconscious, become juggling toys in his hands. The spectator lives through his images as if through the shock of unexpected discovery of a familiar story.
Skaletsky combines traditional painting techniques with contemporary technologies. “Collage for me is a technique that widens possibilities to express myself. I think photography and painting perfectly complement each other and combining them, one can achieve an effect which is impossible in “pure” traditional technique.”
Skaletsky was born in Moscow and immigrated to Israel. He studied painting at the Surikov Art Institute in Moscow.
