Hande Şekerciler was born in Bursa, Turkey. After graduating from the Sculpture Department in the Faculty of Fine Arts at Marmara University, she worked with several painters and sculptors for a while. She has had a great influence from Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele on her works.
In her sculptures she describes through the represented subjects what what’s going on in their minds, their secret and bad desires. Hande is interested in the thin line between fantasy and insanity.
She uses epoxy and acrylics which allow her to establish the contrast between content and plastics. In this way, her characters look like sweet cartoon heroines. These materials also permit her to add enough details to represent their inner world.
Sekerciler has participated in many group exhibitions such as “Ada Vapuru Modern Art Activity” (2003), “Art Bosporus Modern Art Fair” (2008) and “Casa Dell’Arte Gallery, Summer Group Exhibition” (2008). In 2010, she had her solo exhibition “Sıradakiler” at the Gallery Selvin in Istanbul. Currently, Şekerciler continues to work at her workshop in Istanbul.
