Vicki Smith‘s work explores the possibilities and limitations of gravity. She is a Canadian artist and completed her artistic formation between Ontario, Canada and Florence, Italy.
Suspended, twisted and upside down, falling into and out of the picture plane, her female figures are often so precariously placed upon the canvas that they threaten to slip away.
In Vicki Smith’s latest series of paintings the figures play with gravity in the water.
Although the figures float, fly, emerge and disappear in the broken surface of the water, the paintings have a beautiful deep calm.
