The PhotoPhore is very pleased to present one of the WINNERS of the photography contest LIVING THE NATURE, the first event part of the project FOCUS PHOTO WEEKS: Sebastián González Quintero, with his photo “Respect“, selected by public vote.
Sebastián González Quintero is a Colombian psychologist and photographer based in Bogotá. He exhibited in various group shows in Colombia and teaches as instructor to the photography workshops promoted by well-being division of Universidad Nacional de Colombia, in Bogotá.

According to Sebastián González Quintero’s words: “As psychologist and photographer, I understand photography as a method of representation that encourage us to construct and getting ideas based on a particular space and time. This representation, that is mediated by author’s subjectivity, becomes interesting because allows us to see how reality is observed and interpreted“.

“In my case, several experiences lead me to developed an interest for natural environment, landscape and nature. Being a member of the treking club of Universidad Nacional de Colombia, I could go through differents ecosystems in my country, from coasts to high mountains and snow-capped peaks. I have used photography to capture the environments I have visited, trying to share them and motivate the importance to preserve them“.

About the winning photo, “Respect“, 2016, he said: “Glaciers are disappearing in the world, and Colombia is not the exception. In Tolima volcano we can find a diminishing glacier mass. As hikers and climbers, we have decided explore it, always with deepest respect and admiration, dreaming that the glacier does not evaporate“.
