The predominant elements since Esther Stocker‘s earliest works are the geometric motif of lattice patterns, as well as a reduced to black, white and shades of gray chromatism. Stocker’s research deals with structure and perception of space.
The decomposition, the destruction of the forms that are precise, represent for the artist the starting point from which his paintings, as well as her photographic works, installations and interventions on the facades proceed.
She creates her work as a system of structured signs and geometric patterns in white-black-gray, also developed into the third dimension by changing the space and the architecture by means of artistic interventions, among which are optical breakage and disorders or transgressions.
Being noises and disruptions often minimal, they cause a vague and deferred perception that repeatedly require the observation of this apparent precision. In this way the artist creates dynamic spaces that lose their regular apparently clear pattern in paintings.
Esther Stocker was born in Silandro, Italy in 1974. She currenlty lives and works in Vienna. Stocker has presented her artworks in numerous solo and collective exhibitions both in and out of Austria. In 2004, Stocker won the prestigious Austrian Otto Mauer Award.
