The PhotoPhore, proud screening partner of the Microwave 2016 festival, opens its call for artists “ULTRA WATER FLOW”.
We are searching for video-art works, short movies, digital and animation films, to include in our official selection for the Microwave International New Media Arts Festival 2016 in Hong Kong. The screening will be part of the festival programmed during the months of May and June 2016, with a main exhibition from the 03rd to the 12th of June 2016, and it will be hosted at the Hong Kong Design Institute.

The festival and the selection are developed around the theme of the WATER and its FLOW, exploring the symbolical and metaphorical meanings of it, as well as how we understand and interpret the power of this life force. Starting from the element of water, we are interested in analyzing the reflections of its qualities and characteristic in our life.
ULTRA WATER FLOW is a stream that flows, not only a stream of water but a flow of connections among spaces, people and things. A flow that brings information and beauty, able to reach everyone and to change and improve realities and situations. The flow of time, the flow of pictures and memories in the time. An endless flow of people and pieces of existence.
Selection is open to works which underline the relations between art, science and technology too.
To take part in the selection, please send us by email the following materials:
– video works (as a link or file in MPEG, MP4 or AVI format)
– your name, surname and nationality
– title of the work submitted, year of realization, brief description and still images
– CV
Submissions need to be sent to info@thephotophore.com by April 30, 2016.
Submission does not guarantee acceptance. Selected artist will receive the confirmation by email at the end of May 2016.
The selection is open to international artists and video makers. The participation in the selection and in the festival, for confirmed works, is completely FREE.

MICROWAVE 2016 – BE WATER II: As in previous years, Microwave is keen on exploring the cultural impacts of media arts, especially the crossover of Art, Technology and Sciences. In 2015, there were BE WATER Episode I, with the edge of presenting the concept of maker culture, to treat electric medium as water, and how artists and makers work within to make a better world. Marching to 2016, Microwave will present the BE WATER II coheres with the core curatorial approach – Cultural R/Evolution – in the name of how the science and technology evolvement changing the world of living.
The PhotoPhore is a web based platform about contemporary art, photography and architecture. It curates high quality contents, dedicating its attention to projects characterized by a great visual impact and distinctive concepts. The PhotoPhore strongly believes in art and culture sharing and it’s always open to start a dialogue and built partnerships with art festivals, galleries and contests.
