Arnout van Albada lives and works in Groningen, The Netherlands. He graduated from Groningen-based Minerva Art Academy in 1993. Since then he has exhibited in his home country, Italy, USA and the UK.
A perfect use of light, high detailed execution and minimalism characterized his still-life paintings of everyday objects and foods. “My paintings need not to be interpreted too much,” he says “I see the simplicity and monumental nature of my compositions as their main quality.”
Van Albada carefully builds up his paintings in layers. From a coloured base to monochrome underpainting made with egg tempera. The work is then further elaborated with numerous semi-transparent layers of oil paint.
“In the end, I try to catch the elusiveness of an object when isolated from its context to create a timeless and magical image.”
