Marcelo Fernández Mainardi is an Argentinean biologist, designer and teacher by profession; a ceramic artist by vocation and passion. Since 2009, he has researched on ceramics, ceramic-graphic and screen printing techniques applied to the ceramic support.
Environment, evolution of man, development on the planet and consequences on nature, are the key-themes of his work. Marcelo always tries to depict a positive message too: the persistence of nature in recapturing what once belonged to the earth.
Marcelo has found a very strong point of connection with the mud-clay, for its organic nature and ability to symbolize the beginning of our own lives. Nature, fragility, weightlessness and repetition are the elements that inspire him to explore and shape the porcelain with spontaneity, creating new organic forms inspired by the natural world.
Marcelo’s porcelain plates represent small cells: those cells that initiate a new being and its many species. He appropriates this form to create the illusion for the viewer to be immersed in the exciting world of the evolution of species.
“The resignification of the object which positions us in an unexpected context, and the apparent contradiction that altered the expectation. It is the induction to reconstruct the original logic of the object and to disturb, even for a moment, the idea about their aims.”
