In his series Metaphysics of the urban landscape, Gabriele Croppi investigates the effect of the metaphysics on our thoughts (of European citizens, specifically) and on the way we approach to life. He is interested in man’s disposition to go beyond the apparent reality, beyon the first visual impression of the world.
He has interpreted the urban scenes of some Metropolis, with their architectural, sociological and cultural differences, to give back to the resulting image a specific “metaphysical dimension”.
“The result and contents of my research will not end in the images in which my project is embodied but in the way we could all look at them, filtering them with our subjectivity, our cultural background, and all the questions, doubts, imagination which follow.”
The last aim of his artistic research is not to supply simple answers to the European Identity theme, but to help viewers becoming aware about the complexity of “metaphysical origin” that unites European people in their approach to both art and life.
Croppi, graduated in Photography at Istituto Italiano di Fotografia in Milan, works in the field of photography and video. His research focuses on the relationship between photography and other arts, such as painting, literature, film and architecture.
