In her photographs Anne Nobels likes to test the boundaries of reality and fiction. She gives voice to different themes, including fear and transience, finding the inspiration for her pictures in her everyday life.
Describing her series “Myself and I“, Anne says: “From quite a young age I struggled with panic attacks. In the photo serie “Myself and I” I imaged how it feels to live with a panic disorder. You constantly have to fight with a part of yourself.
I hope that these photos give people who haven’t experienced something like this a better idea of how it must feel. This for a better understanding of each other, so others like me won’t have to feel so alone. It’s hard to explain a feeling with just words, you can say so much more with a picture.
I also hope to reach people coping with mental problems, to let them know they’re not alone. That it’s not something you should think lightly of. It’s a serious problem and with help it can get better. Just because you can’t see it, doesn’t mean it’s not real. It is just as real and painful as a broken arm, but unfortunately most of the times not as easy to treat.”
Anne Nobels (1993, the Netherlands) lives and works in Zeeland. She graduated from the Fontys School of Fine and Performing Art in February 2016.
