The works of Donald Martiny are full of visceral movement and vibrant color. These enlarged brush-like strokes are formed from polymer and saturated pigment.
Martiny’s work forces us to question the established definitions which form the backbone of our understanding of painting as both a pursuit and a product, and of paint as a medium. In challenging the viewer in these ways, it is not only visually exciting but intellectually invigorating.
Martiny’s paintings are created using polymer and dispersed pigment on aluminum and often require the use of a very, very big brush.
Donald Martiny has exhibited throughout the United States and internationally, including shows at Fort Wayne Museum of Art, IN, the Contemporary Art Museum of Raliegh, NC, and The Courtauld Institute of Art, London. His work can be found in private collections in Amsterdam, London, Paris, Philadelphia, Washington DC, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
