Vee Speers is an Australian photographer living and working in Paris. Continually exploring new forms and concepts in her fine art photography, she was one of four photographers featured at the grand opening of Fotografiska Museum in Stockholm, Sweden in 2010 (along with Annie Liebovitz, Joel-Peter Witkin and Lennart Nilsson).
Speers’ 2010 portrait series, “Immortal” continues her exploration of the themes of escapism and fantasy. The photographs are comprised of partially nude, ethereal young subjects posed in front of highly dramatic and nearly cataclysmic landscapes from Speers’ native Australia.
“The escape of adolescents into fantasy is just as important as in childhood, only as young adults the escape is quite often into the virtual world of film, television and internet. So the imagery I have created is an isolated world unique to them, somewhere between fantasy and reality. I want them to be alone, standing like fallen angels, but still part of a common world.”
Speers’ timeless portraits have been exhibited and published world-wide and are part of many private and museum collections including the Elton John Collection, Michael Wilson Collection, DZ Bank, Museum 21C Kentucky, George Eastman House, Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Clerici Collection Italy.
