While some people find their calling early, photographer Maxine Helfman is a self taught, late bloomer. After discovering her hidden creative talent, she spent years as a prop/set stylist and on-set art director before turning her attention to the camera and lighting.
That was when her vision came full circle. She began shooting still life and eventually people where she found her passion for portraiture. Each shoot is a mixture of planning and spontaneity, leaving space for the unexpected. Collaboration is the magic.
In 2012, with a fascination for history and current events, her work expanded into Fine Art. She was currently the winner of the Fine Art category for Px3 and IPA, and nominated for a Lucie Award.
Her work has been recognized by CNN, British Journal of Photography, PDN and 2014 Discovery of Fotofest. Her work is part of the permanent collections of the Museum of Fine Art Houston and the Santa Barbara Museum of Art.
