Tara McPherson is an artist based out of New York City. Creating art about people and their odd ways, her characters seem to exude an idealized innocence with a glimpse of hard earned wisdom in their eyes. She explores myths and legends, astronomy, nature, love, childhood and good old life experience. People and their relationships are a central theme throughout her work.
She received her BFA with honors from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA, with an Illustration major and a Fine Art minor. She interned at Rough Draft Studios working on Matt Groening’s “Futurama” during college.
Tara exhibits her paintings and serigraphs in fine art galleries all over the world. Named the crown princess of poster art by ELLE Magazine, she has created numerous gig posters for rock bands such as Beck, Modest Mouse, and Mastodon. She also taught in the Illustration department at Parsons for 4 years.
She has been featured in The New York Times, Esquire, Vanity Fair, Playboy, Sony Magazine, MTV, LA Times, American Illustration, Metal Hammer and many more. Some of her clients include DC Comics, Warner Brothers, Swatch, Rayban, Cirque du Soleil, Dark Horse Comics, Kidrobot, Strangeco, SXSW, Spin, Pepsi, Fanta, 1800 Tequila, Goldenvoice, Penguin, Harper Collins, Bloomsbury, Revolver, Knitting Factory, Village Voice, Dogfish Head Brewery, and Nike among others.
